What is a proprietary blend?

A proprietary blend is a combination of dietary ingredients listed under a single trade name on the Supplement Facts panel. Under FDA regulations (21 CFR 101.36), the total weight of the blend must be declared, and individual ingredients must be listed in descending order by weight — but individual amounts do not need to be disclosed.

The dagger symbol (†) is used when a Daily Value has not been established for an ingredient. Proprietary blends are common in pre-workout supplements, nootropics, and multi-ingredient formulas where the exact ratio is a trade secret.

ReguSift supports proprietary blend formatting with proper hierarchy, indentation, weight ordering, and dagger symbols. Learn how to list a proprietary blend step by step.
